Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday inaugurated a state-of-the-art Trauma Care Centre and Out-Patient Department (OPD) building at the Sambalpur District Headquarters Hospital during his two-day visit to the district.
Constructed at a cost of Rs 21.28 crore, the new Trauma Care Centre and OPD building are designed to deliver prompt and appropriate medical care to accident victims. Additionally, a Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) building, built at Rs 2.53 crore, was also inaugurated. The CSSD will use modern systems to clean and sterilise medical equipment and instruments.
Addressing the media after the inauguration, Chief Minister Majhi emphasised the growing need for trauma care facilities amid rising road accidents. “The primary objective is to ensure accident victims receive immediate and assured treatment,” he said.
He revealed that within 13 days of assuming office, his government, after consultations with the Health Department, decided to establish trauma care centres in all government medical colleges, district headquarters hospitals, and other major public hospitals across the state. A total of 89 advanced trauma care centres are planned, which the Chief Minister said will significantly reduce accident-related deaths and disabilities by enabling timely, high-quality treatment.
Majhi added that upgrading health infrastructure is a key priority, with the new OPD building in Sambalpur being part of this broader effort. “These modern facilities will provide qualitative and advanced healthcare services to the people of Sambalpur district,” he expressed.
The event was attended by Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari, Panchayati Raj, Drinking Water & Rural Development Minister Rabi Narayan Naik, Sambalpur MLA Jayanarayan Mishra, former MLA Nauri Naik, District Collector Siddheshwar Baliram Bondar, and other dignitaries.
