The long-awaited dream of Kandhamal residents for advanced healthcare services has come true with the inauguration of a 100-seat government medical college and a 650-bed hospital in Phulbani.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi led the grand opening, marking a significant milestone in the state’s healthcare infrastructure.

The newly established Kandhamal Medical College is expected to transform healthcare accessibility in the region, providing quality medical education and advanced treatment facilities. The hospital will cater not only to Kandhamal but also to neighbouring districts like Nayagarh, Boudh, and Kalahandi, ensuring better medical services for thousands.

Additionally, the Chief Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation for 10 developmental projects worth approximately Rs 750 crore, including mega water supply schemes, road infrastructure, tourism development, and educational enhancements. These initiatives aim to accelerate Kandhamal’s overall growth and improve the quality of life for its residents.

During his address, Majhi emphasised the government’s commitment to Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, ensuring free healthcare services for over 3.5 crore people in Odisha. He also highlighted the integration of state health schemes to provide comprehensive medical benefits to citizens.

The inauguration of the Kandhamal Medical College and Hospital is expected to boost local employment, research opportunities, and economic development, making Kandhamal a hub for quality healthcare and education.

The Chief Minister stated that the state government is giving special attention to the development of tourism in Daringbadi, known as the paradise of Odisha, which is rich in natural beauty. A project worth Rs 18 crore has been approved, and tenders have been issued for the development of tourism in the area.

Additionally, an amount of Rs 4.5 crore has been allocated for the development of the Putudi waterfall. Other tourist destinations in Kandhamal will also be developed to enhance the tourism industry. The Chief Minister emphasised that the development of these tourist destinations will provide local residents with opportunities to engage in the tourism sector.

Health Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling, Kandhamal MP Sukanta Kumar Panigrahi, and Phulbani MLA Um Charan Mallick were present at the event.
