On the occasion of National Ayurveda Day 2025, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi emphasized the timeless relevance and global significance of Ayurveda, calling it “India’s priceless gift to the world.”
Speaking at the state-level celebration held at Jayadev Bhavan, the CM described Ayurveda not merely as a medical system but as a holistic philosophy for human well-being.
He announced the establishment of a new Ayurvedic Medical College in Rairangpur with an investment of Rs 85 crore. Additionally, three Integrated AYUSH Hospitals are under construction in Dhenkanal, Berhampur, and Balasore under the National AYUSH Mission. Eight new Panchakarma centers will also be set up this year to expand access to traditional therapies.
The CM highlighted that Ayurveda promotes preventive care through balanced diet, lifestyle, and natural healing. He noted that while modern medicine is widely adopted, its side effects and cost have led many to seek alternative systems like Ayurveda and Yoga, which offer sustainable health solutions.
Odisha currently has:
- 3 government Ayurvedic colleges
- 4 government Homoeopathic colleges
- 5 Ayurvedic and 4 Homoeopathic hospitals
- 1,191 AYUSH dispensaries (620 Ayurvedic, 562 Homoeopathic, 9 Unani)
These facilities serve both urban and remote populations, ensuring accessible healthcare rooted in traditional wisdom.
Health Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling shared that over 2.3 crore patients have received treatment through AYUSH services in the current year. He confirmed that the Ayurvedic college in Rairangpur will be operational soon, further strengthening the state’s commitment to indigenous healthcare.
A newsletter from the Directorate of AYUSH was unveiled by the CM during the event. Health Secretary Aswathy S. delivered the welcome address, while AYUSH Director Anjana Panda extended the vote of thanks.
