Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated 250 new ambulances at Kalinga Stadium today, marking the second phase of Odisha’s ambitious emergency healthcare expansion.
The state government has procured 428 new ambulances with an investment of Rs 111 crore. Of these, 150 were launched in December, while today’s addition of 250 further strengthens the emergency medical transport network.
Currently, Odisha operates 866 emergency ambulances and an additional 500 Janani Express vehicles dedicated to pregnant women and sick children. The new fleet will ensure continuous ambulance services from block-level hospitals to district headquarters and onward to SCB Medical College, Cuttack.
Majhi emphasised that the government’s priority is to reduce mortality by ensuring patients reach hospitals quickly. He said ambulances will also be stationed at airstrips in Rourkela and Jeypore under aviation plans, enhancing accessibility during emergencies.
