In a disturbing incident that highlights the vulnerabilities faced by migrant workers, an Odia youth was reportedly attacked in Tamil Nadu, prompting strong condemnation from Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
The Chief Minister has voiced deep concern over the assault, describing it as a barbaric act that demands immediate attention and justice.
According to sources, the young man from Odisha, whose identity has not been disclosed for privacy reasons, was targeted in an unprovoked attack while working in Tamil Nadu. Details of the incident remain sparse, but it has raised alarms about the safety of interstate migrants, a growing issue amid India’s diverse workforce mobility. Chief Minister Majhi, in a statement issued from his office (CMO), emphasised that such violence is utterly condemnable and undermines the spirit of national unity.
“The Odisha government is treating this matter with the utmost seriousness,” Majhi stated. “We are in continuous contact with the Tamil Nadu administration to ensure the victim receives the best possible medical treatment and all necessary support during this difficult time.” He further assured that steps are being taken to facilitate the youth’s recovery and safe return if needed, while urging authorities in Tamil Nadu to swiftly investigate the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
As investigations continue, the Odisha government has pledged to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as more information emerges
