Odisha is expected to see a brief respite from the persistent rain that lashed several regions over the past few days. However, thunderstorms and lightning may continue to affect many parts of the state, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
A yellow warning remains in effect for 20 districts, forecasting light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and wind speeds of 30–40 kmph. IMD clarified that no heavy rainfall is expected during this period, offering some relief to residents.
The low-pressure area over north Chhattisgarh and adjoining east Madhya Pradesh is moving west-northwest and is likely to shift further away within 24 hours. This movement is expected to reduce rainfall intensity across Odisha over the coming days.
Districts bordering Jharkhand — Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, and Jharsuguda — may still experience intermittent thunderstorms. Continuous rainfall in Jharkhand’s upper catchments has caused water levels to rise in the Mahanadi, Budhabalanga, and Subarnarekha rivers, keeping the risk of local flooding alive.
Authorities have been asked to maintain heightened surveillance, particularly in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Balasore, where flood-like situations could develop if rains intensify again in the neighboring state.
