The Regional Meteorological Centre has forecast continued rainfall across Odisha for the next three days, driven by a low-pressure area over the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh coast.
A yellow warning has been issued for 20 districts, with the likelihood of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 30–40 kmph.
Southern districts, including Rayagada, Koraput, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, and Malkangiri, are expected to bear the brunt of heavy downpours, while coastal and central regions such as Cuttack, Puri, Khordha, and Balasore will also experience moderate to intense showers.
Authorities have urged residents in hilly and low-lying areas to remain vigilant, citing risks of landslides, waterlogging, and disruption to transport and communication. Farmers and fishermen have been advised to take necessary precautions.
The rainfall is expected to persist till August 19, raising concerns over flooding and infrastructure strain in vulnerable zones. Emergency services have been placed on alert to respond to any weather-related incidents.
