Odisha is likely to experience heavy rainfall over the next two days, even as the southwest monsoon begins its retreating phase.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for several districts, predicting thunderstorms and moderate to heavy showers in parts of southern and coastal Odisha.

Yellow Warning for Southern Districts

On Saturday, the IMD placed Koraput, Kalahandi, and Rayagada districts under a yellow warning for heavy rainfall.
Other districts may also experience strong winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kmph, accompanied by lightning and thunder.

According to weather officials, the current spell of rainfall is linked to the retreating southwest monsoon and its shifting wind patterns.

Monsoon Likely to Withdraw in 3–4 Days

Recent rainfall across the state ranged between 7 mm and 11 mm, with both northern and southern regions receiving consistent showers. The IMD forecast indicates that the monsoon is expected to withdraw from Odisha within the next three to four days, paving the way for clearer skies and lower humidity.

Impact Across North and South Odisha

Both north and south Odisha have witnessed continuous rainfall in recent days.

While the showers are expected to taper off gradually, areas with high humidity will see noticeable relief once the monsoon withdraws.

Farmers in several regions have benefited from the recent low-pressure systems, which have replenished soil moisture — although the IMD has not yet issued an official statement regarding crop recovery.

Coastal Areas on Alert

Among the coastal districts, Puri has been placed under special watch due to expected rainfall in the next 48 hours.
Local authorities have been directed to remain vigilant and monitor weather updates as the state approaches the final phase of the monsoon season.
