In anticipation of heavy rainfall from a potential cyclone, as forecasted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Odisha Water Resources Department has initiated preparedness measures. A review meeting was chaired by the Development Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary Anu Garg to assess the situation.
The meeting, held this evening in the conference room at Lok Seva Bhawan, was attended by the Chief Engineer of the Water Resources Department along with other senior officials. Discussions focused on monitoring water storage levels in various river basins across the state due to low-pressure induced rainfall from the cyclone.
The Development Commissioner directed officials to closely observe the reservoirs and evaluate the rise in water levels caused by continuous rain. Emphasising accurate assessment, he advised planned and controlled water discharge and management to mitigate risks. Currently, water levels in all rivers remain low, and there is no immediate threat of flooding from the ongoing rainfall, as discussed in the meeting.
However, in view of the evolving situation, the Commissioner urged all departmental officials and engineers at the field level to stay vigilant and perform their duties proactively.
