The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Odisha is set to kick off its state president and national council members’ election process on June 29, 2025, under the direction of central election officer Dr. B. Lakshman.

The three-day election, concluding by July 1, will be supervised by Bihar MP Sanjay Jaiswal, appointed as the observer, according to BJP state election officer and MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi.

The process will involve issuing notifications, accepting nominations, and conducting elections, with Jaiswal expected to visit Odisha post-notification.

The BJP’s organisational elections, held every three years, begin at the grassroots level and culminate in the national president’s election. In Odisha, elections for local, mandal, and district committees have already been completed.

This election marks a critical step in strengthening the party’s structure in the state, where the BJP government, led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, recently celebrated its first year in office, emphasising development initiatives.

Speculation is rife about a potential cabinet expansion following the Rath Yatra, with six vacant ministerial posts yet to be filled. Sources indicate possible portfolio reshuffles and new ministerial appointments, alongside placements in boards and corporations.

Despite a successful first year, the BJP faces challenges in addressing organisational gaps and sustaining momentum.
