To boost sports in Odisha, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi has unveiled an ambitious plan to invest Rs 4,124 crore over the next five years.
The announcement was made at the five-day inter-university sports competition at Dharanidhar University, Keonjhar.
Under this initiative, modern sports facilities for volleyball, cricket, football, and athletics will be developed in every block of the state. Additionally, the Sports and Youth Affairs department has been allocated Rs 1,319 crore in this year’s budget to nurture young sporting talent.
Cities such as Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Berhampur, and Koraput have been earmarked as emerging sports hubs. In a bid to encourage grassroots participation, the CM’s Trophy has been introduced—providing thousands of athletes an opportunity to compete across various sports like football, athletics, hockey, and badminton.
The initiative marks a major step toward making Odisha a sports powerhouse, fostering talent at all levels while ensuring state-of-the-art facilities for aspiring athletes.
