Police have initiated action following allegations of an obscene dance performance at an open-air stage in Chandanbhati village under Balangir Sadar police limits. A video of the performance and the crowd’s reaction reportedly went viral on social media, prompting law enforcement authorities to register a case and begin an investigation.
According to police sources, the incident occurred on January 12 during a Jatra performance in Chandanbhati. Shortly after the programme began, an allegedly obscene dance was performed on stage, drawing objections from members of the public. Following complaints from several spectators, the Chandanbhati police outpost submitted a report, based on which a case was registered at Balangir Sadar police station.
The case has been registered in connection with the item dance performed by artist Nisha Maharana. Police stated that the performance violated public decency norms and led to public outrage.
As part of the investigation, Jatra organisers Surendra Nag and Radheshyam Meher were detained and questioned. After interrogation, both were arrested, confirmed Balangir Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rajkumar Biswal.
Meanwhile, police have launched a search operation to apprehend performer Nisha Maharana. A special police team has reportedly been sent to Bhubaneswar, and officials said she may be arrested soon in connection with the case.
The investigation is ongoing, and further action will be taken based on the findings, police said.
