Dubai: World No.1 tennis player, Novak Djokovic is all set to begin his campaign at the Dubai Open 2022 from February 21, after missing the Australian Open due to deportation over his vaccination status.
Djokovic will look to win his sixth Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship this week and will begin his campaign against rising Italian Lorenzo Musetti in the ATP 500 event.
The winner of 20 Grand Slam titles and a five-time champion here in Dubai, Djokovic was quoted as saying by tennis.com on Saturday that he was “excited” to play in Dubai.
“I always love Dubai.I love coming here.I’ve had plenty of tennis success here and I’m excited to go out on the tennis court next Monday.I miss tennis, honestly, after everything that has happened in the previous couple of months (Australian Open fiasco),” said Djokovic.
The Serbian revealed in recent days that despite the controversy over his failed attempt to play the Australian Open – which ultimately saw him deported over his risk of inciting anti-vaccination sentiment – he is still not planning to get the jab.
