A notorious criminal linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang was killed in an encounter with the Special Task Force (STF) on Wednesday.
Jeetu, with a bounty of ₹1 lakh on his head, had been involved in several criminal activities across Haryana, Delhi, and Ghaziabad.
The encounter took place in the Mundali police station area of Meerut. During the gunfight, Jeetu sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his wounds. According to police sources, the STF engaged in a fierce battle with a gang of criminals, resulting in the encounter.
Jeetu, a resident of Asounda village in Haryana’s Jhajjar district, had a criminal record with eight cases registered against him. In 2016, he was sentenced to life imprisonment for a double murder case in Jhajjar. While on parole in 2023, he escaped custody and committed a contract killing in Ghaziabad’s Tilamod area.
During his time in jail, Jeetu established connections with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and subsequently became involved in their illicit activities. The police had announced a reward of ₹1 lakh for any information leading to his capture.
Jeetu’s criminal activities spanned multiple regions, including Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh. Notable charges against him included life imprisonment and various other sentences from different courts.
The successful operation by the STF marks a significant achievement in the ongoing efforts to curb gang-related crimes in the region.
