Rabi Dash, a 42-year-old notorious criminal, was brutally murdered by his two nephews and their accomplices in Haripur village under Tulsipur Panchayat on Wednesday.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community.
According to reports, Rabi Dash was on his way to his in-laws’ house in Kanchana with his wife and the local Nayab Sarpanch, Minti Dash, when the attack occurred around 6 am. The assailants, identified as Kalia Dash and Nilanchal Dash, along with two accomplices, ambushed Rabi, throwing bombs at him before attacking him with swords.
Eyewitness Banshi Pradhan, a villager, tried to intervene but was threatened with a sword and forced to leave the scene. The attackers fled, taking Rabi’s bullet and mobile phone with them.
Local authorities, including Chhatrapur SDPO Chandan Ghadai, Khallikote IIC Ramesh Pradhan, and Bhejiphut Fandi Officer Debashish Mishra, arrived at the scene to conduct an investigation. A sniffer dog and a scientific team were brought in to aid the investigation, and Rabi’s body was sent for autopsy.
Rabi Dash, who had a history of involvement in the illegal liquor and stone business, had been staying at his in-laws’ house in Kanchana since 2024. He was known for his criminal record and had been repeatedly jailed.
The police are actively investigating the case, and further details are awaited.
