In the aftermath of the terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, on April 22, 2025, Sourav Ganguly, former Indian cricket team captain, has called for India to sever all cricketing ties with Pakistan.

Ganguly expressed that the recurring terrorism on Indian soil cannot and should not be tolerated. His statement comes amidst growing pressure on India to take strong action against its neighbour.

The attack, perpetrated by the Resistance Force (a Lashkar-e-Taiba affiliate), claimed 26 lives and left many injured. Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack, vowing that every terrorist and their supporter will face justice. While India currently refrains from bilateral cricket series with Pakistan due to government policy, Ganguly’s remarks push for a complete suspension of play, including ICC and Asian tournaments.

The BCCI Vice President, Rajeev Shukla, reiterated India’s alignment with government policies and stressed the inevitability of engagement with Pakistan at ICC events. As the nation mourns the victims, voices like Ganguly’s add urgency to the call for decisive action against terrorism and its supporters.
