In another blow to Maoist insurgency, nine cadres, including seven women, surrendered in Dhamtari district, Chhattisgarh, on January 23, 2026.

The Maoists, with a collective bounty of Rs 47 lakh, surrendered before the Inspector General of Police, Raipur Range, Amresh Mishra, and the Superintendent of Police of Dhamtari district, Suraj Singh Parihar.

The group, hailing from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, handed over weapons including INSAS rifles, SLRs, and ammunition.

Inspector General Amresh Mishra lauded the surrenders during a formal ceremony, emphasising the state’s commitment to peace and development in Naxal-affected areas.

The Maoists cited disillusionment with leadership exploitation and the allure of government incentives as reasons for their defection.

This event unfolded under the state’s rehabilitation policy, offering defectors financial aid, land, and job opportunities to reintegrate into society.
