Chennai: At least nine people died, and several others were injured in an explosion at a firecracker factory in Tamil Nadu’s Virudhunagar district on Saturday.
The magnitude of the blast was so high that four buildings, in addition to the firecracker factory, were destroyed.
After the incident, police and a team from the fire department rushed to the spot and admitted the injured to a local hospital where they are getting medical treatment.
According to the police, seven people died on the spot while two succumbed to their injuries while being on their way to the hospital.
The preliminary investigation suggested that the accident occurred in the chemical mixing room of the factory, police added. Further investigation into the case is underway.
