The Government of India has officially appointed Nikhil Pavan Kalyan, IAS (OD-2012), as the new Director of Census Operations (DCO) and Director of Citizen Registration (DCR) in Odisha. His tenure is set to last until December 31, 2025, or until further notice.
The appointment was approved by the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) under the leadership of the Competent Authority, instructing the Odisha government to relieve Kalyan immediately so he can assume his new responsibilities.
The directive also underscores the importance of the timely assumption of office. As per the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) guidelines, officers appointed to such roles must join within three weeks of the appointment notice.
This appointment is expected to play a significant role in the upcoming Census 2025, ensuring a seamless process of citizen registration and demographic data collection across Odisha.
