In a shocking incident from Samantarapur village, a newly-wed woman named Situ Pradhan was allegedly killed by her husband, Rajendra Swain, and his family over persistent dowry demands.

Despite providing Rs 5 lakh as a dowry during the marriage, her family claims the harassment for more dowry continued, leading to her tragic death.

Situ Pradhan, married to Rajendra Swain on December 10, 2023, was found dead under suspicious circumstances on Thursday night. Her family, who reported speaking with her just hours before her death, has alleged that she was murdered. A formal complaint has been lodged at the local police station.

The police, in collaboration with a scientific team, have initiated a thorough investigation. Situ’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination at Cuttack Medical College. Rajendra Swain is currently in police custody for questioning, while his family members are reported to be absconding.

“We rushed to the village after receiving information, only to find our daughter already dead. They had killed her and put her body on a cot. We demand justice,” said Manjulata Pradhan, the aunt of the deceased.

The investigation is ongoing, and local police officials are leading it. The post-mortem report is expected to reveal crucial details about the case.
