As the New Year approaches, the holy town of Puri is witnessing a steady rise in the number of devotees arriving for darshan of Lord Jagannath at the Srimandir. The growing footfall has resulted in long queues outside the temple, prompting authorities to strengthen crowd control and security arrangements.
Officials said the number of pilgrims has been increasing daily and is expected to peak on December 31 and January 1, which traditionally draw large crowds to the revered shrine.
Crowd Management Measures Implemented
To ensure smooth movement of devotees and avoid overcrowding, the district administration has put in place extensive barricading arrangements from Srinar to Bagala Dharmashala. These measures are designed to regulate entry routes leading to the Srimandir and maintain an orderly flow during peak hours.
Devotees are being permitted entry into the temple in a phased manner, allowing authorities to manage congestion within the temple premises effectively.
Enhanced Security Arrangements
Security has been significantly stepped up across Puri as part of the New Year preparedness. According to officials, 25 platoons of police personnel, along with senior officers, will be deployed across key locations, including the Srimandir and the sea beach area, to maintain law and order.
Police personnel have been stationed at strategic points to monitor crowd movement, assist pilgrims, and respond promptly to any untoward situation.
Heavy Footfall Continues
Reports indicate that thousands of devotees are arriving in Puri every day to seek blessings of the Sibling Deities. On Friday morning, large numbers of pilgrims were seen standing in long queues from the early hours, patiently waiting for darshan at the Srimandir.
The administration has appealed to devotees to cooperate with security personnel and follow guidelines to ensure a safe and peaceful pilgrimage experience.
