In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) seized Methamphetamine tablets worth ₹88 crore and arrested four members of an international drug cartel in coordinated operations across Imphal and Guwahati zones.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah took to X (formerly Twitter) to commend the operation, stating, “No mercy for drug cartels. This massive seizure is a testament to the Modi government’s commitment to building a drug-free Bharat.”
Operation Breakdown:
🔹 First Operation – Imphal Zone (March 13):
Acting on specific intelligence, NCB officers intercepted a truck near Lilong, uncovering 102.39 kg of Methamphetamine tablets hidden in the vehicle’s rear cabin.
Two truck occupants and a third suspect—the intended receiver—were apprehended. A four-wheeler used for trafficking was also seized.
The suspected source of the contraband was Moreh, Manipur.
🔹 Second Operation – Guwahati Zone:
On the same day, NCB officers intercepted an SUV near the Assam-Mizoram border (Silchar) and, upon inspection, discovered 7.48 kg of Methamphetamine tablets concealed inside the spare tire.
The occupant of the vehicle was arrested. The drugs were suspected to have originated from Moreh, Manipur, with Karimganj as the likely destination.
Drug Trafficking in the Northeast:
The North Eastern Region has become a critical hotspot for drug smuggling due to its geographical location. Recognizing this vulnerability, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) strengthened the NCB’s presence in 2023 to intensify the war against narcotics in the region.
This successful operation underscores the government’s zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking, with authorities vowing continued efforts to dismantle international drug networks.
