Biju Janata Dal (BJD) President and Leader of the Opposition Naveen Patnaik has begun a four-day visit to New Delhi, intensifying political buzz just days before the Vice-Presidential election on September 9.
Patnaik’s trip is aimed at holding consultations with the BJD’s Rajya Sabha members to finalize the party’s stand on the upcoming election. While the BJD has yet to officially announce its decision, speculation is rife that the party may extend support to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate.
Adding to the intrigue, there are strong rumours of a possible meeting between Naveen Patnaik and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his stay. However, BJD leaders have refrained from confirming any such engagement.
With seven seats in the Rajya Sabha, the BJD’s support could prove crucial in shaping the final outcome of the Vice-Presidential election. Political observers believe Patnaik’s decision will signal the party’s future approach towards the Centre and its broader national strategy.
