In the wake of the devastating terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, Odisha Leader of Opposition and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) chief Naveen Patnaik reached out to the family of Prashant Satapathy, a tourist from Balasore district who was killed in the attack.

Patnaik spoke to Susant Satapathy, the elder brother of the deceased, over the telephone, conveying his deep sympathies and assuring all possible support to the grieving family.

The attack, which took place on April 22, 2025, in the scenic Baisaran meadows of Pahalgam, has been labelled as one of the deadliest civilian attacks in the Kashmir Valley since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. Among the 26 victims were two foreign tourists, alongside locals and tourists from various Indian states, including Odisha, Tamil Nadu, and Gujarat. Prashant Satapathy, a native of Balasore, was struck by a bullet during the attack, leaving his family in profound shock.

“I am deeply saddened by the loss of Prashant Satapathy in this horrific attack. My thoughts are with his family, and I assure them of all possible assistance,” Patnaik stated.
