Washington: Indian-born NASA astronaut Sunita Williams shared her optimism about the return flight from space on Wednesday.
“I have a strong belief that this spacecraft will safely bring us home,” said NASA astronaut Sunita “Suni” Williams during a live press conference from the International Space Station (ISS). This was the test crew’s initial press briefing since docking with the ISS more than a month ago.
Highlighting that ‘failure is not an option,’ NASA astronaut Butch Wilmore stated that the primary goal of staying at ISS is to test the spacecraft. Wilmore and Williams were launched aboard Starliner from Florida on June 5 and successfully docked the next day at the ISS.
“We have complete faith,” Wilmore assured reporters. “As you’ve heard, failure is not an option.”
“We are committed to testing it. That’s our mission,” Wilmore expressed to reporters. During the conference, he acknowledged that an ongoing investigation by the U.S. space agency and Boeing regarding thruster tests on Earth is crucial for their return.
