Nandankanan Zoological Park celebrated its 66th Foundation Day on Monday with vibrant festivities in the capital city of Odisha.
Established in 1960, the zoo continues to be a major attraction for wildlife lovers and researchers.
Forest and Environment Minister Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia attended the event and inaugurated several new animal enclosures. These include the North-East panorama, a small wild cat enclosure, a glass-fronted leopard enclosure, Asian palm civet and pangolin enclosures, a horticulture unit, a herbivore quarantine centre, and a reptile quarantine centre.
The celebration also featured a naming ceremony for animal cubs born at the zoo. Tiger cubs, lion cubs, chimpanzee cubs, and Himalayan black bear cubs received names in front of visitors and staff.
Officials honoured employees who demonstrated excellence in their work, recognising their contribution to the zoo’s growth and reputation.
With the addition of new enclosures, visitors will now enjoy more attractions and gain opportunities to see rare and diverse species.
