The mysterious death of lady constable Rukmini Nag has triggered shock and raised serious questions, after her body was found near Nuapada Railway Station under unclear circumstances.
According to sources, shortly before her body was recovered, Rukmini had allegedly circulated a video message to several people. In the recording, she reportedly indicated that she was ending her life and accused members of her in-laws’ family of harassment and torture.
“We married out of love. As our parents did not initially accept us, we tied the knot in a temple. Later, after my husband’s family agreed, we registered the marriage in court. My husband’s mother, Malati Sabar, was not living with us but kept creating disturbances. Even during my pregnancy, they did not support me. They would only come to ask for money. I don’t want to die, but after so much torture, I cannot go on living,” Rukmini is heard saying in the video.
Police officials, however, stated that the cause of death has not yet been established. The video is being treated as a crucial piece of evidence and is under examination.
“We have registered a case of abetment to suicide. The body has been seized and sent for post-mortem. Everything will be clear after the report. We are also verifying the video,” said Ranjit Nayak, ASP Nuapada.
So far, no reaction has come from Rukmini’s husband or his family regarding the allegations made in the video.
The incident has sparked widespread concern in the district, with many calling for a fair and thorough probe to uncover the truth behind the constable’s tragic death.
