Malkangiri police seized 135 kilograms of cannabis from an abandoned white car near Nuaguda village in Korukonda block.
The vehicle, bearing the fake registration number CG-04-HSC-9929, had been left unattended by the roadside for two days, raising suspicion among locals.
On Friday around 1 PM, an anonymous tip alerted Korukonda police about the suspicious vehicle. Acting swiftly, a team led by Station Officer Himanshu Shekhar Barik reached the spot and conducted a thorough inspection. Inside the car, police discovered five large sacks filled with cannabis.
The vehicle and the contraband were taken to the police station for further investigation. Later in the evening, Additional Tehsildar of Malkangiri, Umesh Pujari, arrived at the station and supervised the weighing of the seized material, confirming a total of 135 kilograms.
Police officials stated that the car’s number plate was fake and the identity of the owner remains unknown. The accused individuals had fled the scene, and their involvement is yet to be determined. Investigations are ongoing to trace the culprits and uncover the network behind the smuggling operation.
