Former Mumbai captain Milind Rege renowned as Mumbai cricket’s encyclopaedia passed away at the age of 76 due to cardiac arrest on Wednesday.
Rege was an off-spinning all-rounder who played 52 First-Class matches and was part of five consecutive Ranji Trophy title-winning seasons.
His playing career was cut short due to cardiac issues in his late 20s, but he made a comeback to competitive cricket and had a successful off-field career.
Rege headed the Tata Sports Club, served in various capacities in Mumbai cricket, and was a notable talent spotter as a selector.
He was appointed as an advisor by the Mumbai Cricket Association and was known for his mentorship and analysis.
Sandeep Patil and Diana Edulji paid tribute to Rege, highlighting his contributions to Mumbai cricket and his support to fellow cricketers.
Rege is survived by his wife, Raj, sons Siddharth and Aditya, and their families. The last rites will be performed in Mumbai on Thursday.
