Petropolis: The total number of deaths from floods and mudslides in Brazil’s Petropolis has climbed to 204. Police authorities said late Wednesday that at least 51 people remained missing as rescue efforts continued.
A spokesman for the Rio de Janeiro State Fire Department said: search and rescue were suspended on Wednesday due to storms in the area.
On February 15, Petropolis, a city 68 km from Rio de Janeiro, was ravaged by torrential rains that caused more than 50 mudslides and flooding.
Petropolis, a historic tourist center in Brazil, still has 810 evacuees who have lived in school shelters for the past week.
