Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, has launched a series of targeted health initiatives aimed at enhancing community well-being in the Rayagada and Kalahandi districts of Odisha. These initiatives are part of the company’s Mobile Health Unit (MHU) program, which focuses on community support.
Over 1,500 community members benefitted from free malaria testing, guidance on recognizing symptoms, and preventive measures including sanitation, the use of mosquito nets, and the elimination of stagnant water. These steps are crucial in controlling seasonal disease outbreaks. Additionally, a monsoon preparedness session was conducted for 80 women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) across five villages. This session covered topics such as household hygiene, access to safe drinking water, precautionary measures against snake bites, and essential first-response actions for timely treatment. The aim was to empower participants with practical knowledge to protect their families during the monsoon season.
Vedanta Aluminium has provided quality healthcare to over 20,000 residents in more than 35 remote villages across Rayagada and Kalahandi. In the past two years, more than 2,000 free health camps have been organized to bridge critical healthcare gaps in underserved regions. Each Mobile Health Unit is a fully equipped medical van staffed with a doctor, nurse, lab technician, and pharmacist. They offer check-ups, screenings, blood sugar tests, distribution of essential medicines, and regular awareness sessions focused on preventive care.
Rajiv Kumar, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium, stated, “At Vedanta Aluminium, we are committed to proactive health interventions. Our initiatives not only address seasonal challenges but also focus on long-term well-being, raising awareness, and ensuring access to quality healthcare for all. Through our Mobile Health Unit, we deliver healthcare on wheels and conduct regular awareness sessions to help build healthier communities.”
Nabin Naik, a community member, shared, “The awareness sessions conducted by Vedanta have significantly improved our understanding of health and safety practices during the monsoon. With this knowledge, we feel better equipped to protect our families and take preventive measures.”
