Mohsin Naqvi, the current Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has officially taken the helm as the President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), succeeding Shammi Silva of Sri Lanka.
His appointment was announced after a virtual ACC board meeting on Thursday.
Naqvi expressed his gratitude and outlined his vision for Asian cricket in a statement, emphasizing the importance of unity and innovation. “Asia remains the heartbeat of world cricket, and I am committed to working with all member boards to accelerate the game’s growth and global influence,” he remarked.
Under Naqvi’s leadership, the PCB recently hosted the ICC Champions Trophy after a gap of 29 years, reflecting his ability to deliver on high-stakes challenges. However, his next big test lies ahead: successfully organizing the Asia Cup, set for September. Initially designated to India, the tournament will now take place in a neutral country, with options including the UAE or Sri Lanka, due to ongoing political tensions between India and Pakistan.
Naqvi’s presidency marks a new chapter for the ACC, as he aims to foster collaboration and take Asian cricket to unprecedented heights.
