Modern auditing practices serve as the cornerstone of good governance, stated Odisha Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati.
Speaking as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the 5th Audit Week held at Jaydev Bhawan today, the Governor emphasised the need to transform auditing to ensure the effective implementation of contemporary governance.
In his address, Governor Kambhampati highlighted that modern auditing must be analytical, technology-driven, and forward-looking. It should incorporate data analysis, risk assessment, and value-based evaluation to enhance oversight of public expenditures and financial systems. He noted that the role of auditors extends beyond mere account verification; in today’s context, auditing stands at the intersection of governance, technology, and public expectations.
Keeping in view the proliferation of digital platforms and extensive government programs, the Governor stressed the importance of risk evaluation, control improvements, and data-informed decision-making in auditing processes.
Reflecting on the history of India’s auditing institutions, the Governor pointed out that for over 150 years, they have been the foundation of public accountability. These institutions ensure the responsible and transparent utilisation of government resources, thereby strengthening trust in governance.
Governor Kambhampati commended Odisha’s advancements in adopting technology-based systems. He particularly praised initiatives like ‘SAMADHAN’ as a model for efficient and empathetic grievance management. Additionally, he lauded the office of the Accountant General (AG) in Odisha for embracing digital audit tools, analytics, and skill development, positioning the state as a leader in modern audit reforms.
The Governor further remarked that the future of auditing relies on innovation, collaboration, and professional excellence, including the use of artificial intelligence and advanced analytics. He advocated for a proactive, integrated, and advisory audit framework to bolster transparency and institutional credibility.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Principal Accountant General (A&E) D. Sahu, while Principal Accountant General (Audit-1) Subu R. concluded with a vote of thanks.
