In the wake of heightened security measures, civil defence mock drills are set to take place in four states bordering Pakistan—Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir—starting Thursday.
This move comes weeks after the conclusion of Operation Sindoor, where India and Pakistan agreed to halt military actions.
The drills, overseen by the Ministry of Home Affairs, are part of a nationwide initiative aimed at bolstering emergency preparedness. A total of 244 districts across the country have been mandated to conduct similar drills following the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 civilian lives.
Officials have outlined the key components of the drill, including blackout exercises, air raid sirens, evacuation protocols, and public awareness sessions. The exercises are designed to simulate wartime scenarios to ensure civilians are equipped with survival strategies in the event of an emergency.
Meanwhile, the Haryana government is also launching “Operation Shield,” a state-wide civil defence exercise across all 22 districts starting May 29. The initiative seeks to strengthen response capabilities and assess the effectiveness of preparedness protocols.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently addressed the nation, reiterating India’s stance on terrorism and security. He emphasised that military operations against terror hideouts were conducted transparently, proving India’s commitment to national defence.
As the drills commence, officials urge citizens to cooperate and actively participate to enhance community resilience in crisis situations.
