A viral video showing a person using a mobile phone inside Ananda Bazaar at Puri’s Jagannath Temple has triggered serious concerns about security breaches at the sacred shrine.
Despite strict advisories and multiple layers of checks prohibiting electronic devices, the individual was seen talking on the phone for a long time inside the temple premises.
This incident has reignited debate over how mobile phones continue to slip past security measures. It is not the first such breach. In October, police detained a temple gumasta after a mobile phone was found inside the premises. He was allegedly taking photos and was interrogated at the Singhadwar police station.
In another case, two youths were caught using a hidden camera embedded in glasses to capture images inside the temple. They were promptly detained by police personnel.
Repeated violations have raised eyebrows among devotees and authorities alike, prompting the police administration to take serious notice. Officials have vowed to tighten security measures further to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
