Former Delhi captain Mithun Manhas has been officially elected as the new President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Mumbai today.

This marks a historic moment as Manhas becomes the first individual from Jammu and Kashmir to hold this prestigious position, hailing from Bhaderwah in the erstwhile Doda district.

Manhas, a domestic cricket stalwart with over 15,000 runs in Indian first-class and List A cricket, succeeds Roger Binny, whose tenure concluded after overseeing significant achievements for Indian cricket.

A momentous occasion to celebrate!

Binny, a key member of India’s 1983 World Cup-winning squad, led the BCCI through a period of on-field triumphs, including India’s victory in the T20 World Cup 2024 and the Champions Trophy 2025. His leadership emphasised continuity and success across generations, blending his playing legacy with administrative reforms.

The election also unveiled the new BCCI leadership team:

  • Vice-President: Rajeev Shukla (retained)
  • Secretary: Devajit Saikia
  • Joint Secretary: Prabhtej Singh Bhatia
  • Treasurer: Raghuram Bhat
  • IPL Chairman: Arun Thakur (or Dhumal in some reports)
  • Apex Council Member: Jaydev Shah
  • Governing Council Members: M. Khairul Jamal Majumdar, among others

Additionally, former Indian cricketers RP Singh and Pragyan Ojha have been appointed as new selectors for Team India, further strengthening the board’s focus on talent development.

This shake-up comes amid ongoing discussions on India’s participation in international events, including today’s Asia Cup final against Pakistan, where BCCI VP Shukla expressed confidence in an Indian victory.

As Indian cricket enters this new era, all eyes will be on how Manhas navigates the board’s immense influence, balancing sporting excellence with commercial growth.
