The body of Prabin Mahaling alias Mutu, who had been missing since January 5, was recovered today from a pond at Patharachepa in Bolangir town.
According to reports, Mutu, a resident of Shantipada, had gone missing after dropping his child home from school. His motorcycle and mobile phone were later found abandoned on the Patharachepa road, but there was no trace of him. Family members lodged a complaint at the Sadar police station, suspecting abduction.
This morning, locals spotted a body floating in the pond and informed police. Sadar IIC Rajkumar Biswal, along with a team and fire services personnel, recovered the body and sent it to Bhima Bhoi Medical College for post-mortem examination.
Family members alleged that Mutu was murdered and his body dumped in the pond. They demanded a fair and impartial investigation. Police sources said the body was found with trousers removed and injury marks visible, strengthening suspicions of foul play.
Sadar SDPO Saroj Upadhyay stated that the post-mortem report will provide clarity, and the investigation will proceed accordingly.
