The mystery surrounding the disappearance of 25-year-old traffic constable Subhamitra Sahoo has ended in tragedy.
Her body was discovered buried in a forested area of Keonjhar district, days after she was reported missing on September 6.
The accused, Deepak Rout—himself a constable—has confessed to murdering Subhamitra following a personal dispute. According to police sources, Rout strangled her, transported the body in a car from Bhubaneswar, and buried it in Keonjhar. The vehicle used in the crime has been seized, and a special squad was dispatched to recover the remains.
Subhamitra’s disappearance had prompted the Commissionerate Police to announce a ₹25,000 reward for credible information. The case took a darker turn when it was revealed that Rout had previously received ₹1 crore in insurance money after the suspicious death of his wife, which he had claimed was accidental.
The investigation continues as authorities probe deeper into Rout’s past and possible connections to other crimes.
