A case of alleged rape of a minor girl has surfaced in Odisha’s Malkangiri district, with a truck driver taken into custody following a formal complaint by the survivor’s family.
According to police sources, the minor girl, residing under Malkangiri Sadar police limits, had gone out on Sunday evening to attend a friend’s birthday party but failed to return home by late night. Her family launched a frantic search but could not locate her.
Later that night, locals spotted the girl with a truck driver near Bija Ghat on the Malkangiri-Jeypore highway, in what was described as a suspicious condition. They immediately alerted the police.
Responding quickly, police rescued the girl and shifted her to the Shakti Sadan shelter home. The truck driver was detained for questioning.
On Monday, the girl’s mother filed a written complaint at the Malkangiri Adarsh Police Station, alleging rape. A case has now been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Authorities have begun a detailed investigation. Police said further action will be based on the medical examination report and statements collected during the inquiry.
