A minor girl was allegedly abducted and raped in the Pujariput area in Koraput district.
The accused has been identified as Sushil Harijan, a resident of Bebarta Colony.
Acting on a complaint filed by the girl’s parents, the Town Police swiftly launched a probe and rescued the victim.
According to Town Police Officer Satyananda Patra, the crime took place on the night of July 26 when Harijan forcibly took the minor girl into a car and maintained physical relations with her throughout the night. The next day, the victim’s parents filed an FIR, leading to immediate action by the police.
The accused was arrested and sent to court following a preliminary investigation. A scientific team has been involved in evidence gathering, and the car used in the crime has been seized. Sub-Inspector Ranjit Mishra is overseeing the investigation.
This incident has sparked concern over safety and vigilance in the region, urging authorities to strengthen child protection mechanisms.
