The lifeless body of a minor girl was recovered from the Bartana forest under the Jaleswar police limits on Thursday, five days after she was reported missing.
According to reports, the victim was allegedly abducted, raped, and subsequently murdered. In a heinous attempt to destroy evidence, the perpetrators reportedly used chemical substances to burn the body beyond recognition. The family members identified the victim through the remaining clothes found near the remains at the crime scene.
Police Inaction and Public Fury
Tensions flared as grieving family members and locals accused the local police of gross negligence. They claimed that despite filing a formal complaint naming the prime suspect and three others involved in the abduction, the police remained inactive and failed to take prompt action.
Frustrated by the authorities’ alleged apathy, angry locals stormed the house of one of the detained youths and went on a rampage, vandalising property. Demonstrators also blocked the Jaleswar-Paschimabaad road by burning tyres, demanding immediate justice and the stringent punishment of all culprits.
Investigation Underway
Upon receiving news of the discovery, a scientific team alongside the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) rushed to the spot to conduct a thorough forensic investigation. Police have currently detained one youth in connection with the crime and are grilling him for details.
Meanwhile, taking serious cognisance of the horrific incident, BJP leader Sipra Vajpayee rushed to Jaleswar. She held high-level discussions with the Superintendent of Police (SP) and other senior police officials, pressing for an impartial, rigorous probe and strict action against everyone involved.
