A tragic incident has surfaced from Bandhugaon block in Koraput district, where a man reportedly lost his life following a domestic dispute with his wife.
The deceased, Danu Meleka of Gulumiguda village under Kutrabeda Panchayat, had recently returned home after working as a migrant labourer in another state.
Sources reveal that Danu and his wife, Rami Meleka, were frequently involved in heated arguments. Danu had often threatened suicide during these altercations. On Tuesday night, another quarrel broke out, after which Rami, noticing her husband in an intoxicated state, left for her parental home to sleep.
The next morning, upon returning and opening the door, she found Danu had allegedly hanged himself. Villagers were informed immediately. However, controversy erupted when some locals reportedly pressured the family not to approach the police, citing financial burdens associated with legal proceedings.
Despite the resistance, police reached the village after receiving information and recovered the body. Rami Meleka filed a written complaint at Bandhugaon police station. The body was sent to Bandhugaon Community Health Centre on Wednesday evening and handed over to the family after the post-mortem.
Bandhugaon Police Station IIC Prasanna Mishra confirmed that a case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
