Bhubaneswar: The maximum day temperature soared to 40 °C or above at as many as 18 places in Odisha, informed the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre on Sunday.
As per the latest IMD bulletin, Bolangir recorded the highest maximum day temperature of 44.4 °C followed by Titilagarh at 44 °C, today.
Besides, the maximum day temperature at Jharsuguda was recorded at 43.6 °C, followed by Bhawanipatna at 43.5 °C, Boudh 42.9 °C, , Sambalpur; Sonepur & Malkangiri 42.8 °C each, Angul 42.7 °C, Sundargarh 42.4 °C, Rourkela 42.2 °C, Bargarh 42.1 °C, Talcher, Nuapada & Nayagarh 42 °C each, Hirakud, 41.9 °C, Nabarangpur 40.4 °C, and Bhadrak 40 °C.
Besides, the day temperature recorded in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack stood at 38.4 °C and 37.6 °C respectively.
Heatwave conditions are likely in some districts of Odisha till the 18th of May
In a special bulletin, the IMD regional centre here said that heat wave conditions is likely to prevail in some districts of Odisha till the 18th of May.
“Under influence of Dry Westerly/Northwesterly winds and high solar insolation, Maximum temperature (Day Temperature) very likely to rise by 2 to 3°C during next 24 hours at many places over the districts of Odisha. Consequently, heat wave condition is likely in some districts of interior Odisha from 15th May 2023 and also maximum temperature (Day Temperature) likely to be more than 40°C and above normal by 3 to 5°C at a few places over the districts of Odisha,” read the bulletin.

Impact and Action Suggested:
- Heat is tolerable for general public but slight health concern for vulnerable people (viz: infant, elderly and sick people
- It is advised to avoid heat exposure, keep cool and avoid dehydration.
- Farmers are advised to continue irrigation activities in sugarcane, summer maize, pulses and other crop and vegetables.
