The Special Judge, Vigilance, Baripada convicted Bhimsen Mangaraj, the retired Tahasildar of Bahalda in Mayurbhanj district, for possessing disproportionate assets.

Odisha Vigilance had filed the case under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

The court sentenced Mangaraj to two years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1,00,000. Investigators had earlier uncovered assets that far exceeded his known sources of income during his tenure as Tahasildar.

Following the conviction, Vigilance officials announced plans to approach the competent authority to initiate proceedings for stopping Mangaraj’s pension. They emphasized that the punishment reflects the seriousness of the offense and reinforces the state’s commitment to fighting corruption.

Odisha Vigilance had charge-sheeted Mangaraj after a detailed investigation revealed multiple properties and financial irregularities. The agency continues to pursue similar cases to ensure accountability among public servants.

This conviction adds to a growing list of successful prosecutions by Odisha Vigilance. Officials believe that such outcomes send a strong message about the importance of integrity and transparency in government service.
