A tragic incident unfolded near the Koraput Police Headquarters when the roof of a market complex collapsed, killing the owner of Harihar Bakery and leaving several others feared trapped beneath the rubble.
The collapse occurred unexpectedly during renovation work at the bakery. Emergency teams from Koraput, Laxmipur, Semiliguda, and Jeypore Fire Services, along with ODRAF and police personnel, rushed to the scene to initiate rescue operations.
The shop owner was pulled from the debris and taken to Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College & Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Locals suspect that 4 to 5 more individuals may still be trapped under the collapsed structure.
Six JCB machines have been deployed to assist in the rescue, and sniffer dogs are being used to locate survivors. The operation is ongoing, with authorities working tirelessly to clear the debris and ensure no lives are lost.
The incident has raised serious concerns about construction safety and oversight in commercial zones.
