After a brief lull in activities, Maoist insurgents have once again made their presence felt in the border regions of Belghar and Kotgarh police stations in Odisha’s Kandhamal district.
A joint combing operation conducted by Special Operations Group (SOG) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel led to a direct confrontation with Maoists in the dense Mundimaska forest under Bilamal panchayat.
The encounter unfolded when security forces came face-to-face with the insurgents, resulting in an intense exchange of gunfire between the two sides. The skirmish lasted for some time before the Maoists reportedly dispersed and fled the scene. No casualties have been reported so far from either side.
Search operations remain ongoing in the area, with SOG and CRPF teams intensifying their efforts to track down any fleeing insurgents. During the operation, forces discovered and dismantled a Maoist camp hidden in the forest. From the site, they recovered a firearm along with essential food supplies and various other Maoist materials, indicating a well-established temporary base.
Authorities are on high alert, and further details are awaited as the combing operation continues.
