Security forces achieved a major breakthrough in anti-Maoist operations after seizing a large cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives from a suspected Maoist hideout near the Odisha–Chhattisgarh border, officials said on Sunday.
Search Operation in Gariaband Forests
The recovery was made during a joint search operation in the Daidapani forest area under Menapur police limits in Gariaband district of Chhattisgarh. The operation was launched following specific intelligence inputs indicating Maoist movement in the region.
According to official sources, security personnel detected a large Maoist camp concealed deep inside the forest. During the search, several weapons and materials were recovered, believed to have been stockpiled for future insurgent activities.
Arms and Explosives Recovered
The seized items reportedly include:
-
Mortar launchers
-
Firearms
-
Explosives
-
Other Maoist logistical materials
Officials said the seizure is expected to significantly disrupt Maoist activities along the inter-state border, an area known for its dense forest cover and challenging terrain.
Joint Effort by Multiple Forces
The operation involved coordinated action by multiple security units, including:
-
Chhattisgarh Police’s E-30 Unit
-
COBRA Battalion 207
-
16th Battalion, Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF)
-
65th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)
Authorities said such joint operations have been intensified to curb left-wing extremism in the border districts of Odisha and neighbouring Chhattisgarh.
Investigation Underway
Security agencies are currently investigating the origin of the seized weapons and assessing the extent of Maoist presence in the area. No arrests have been reported so far, and officials involved in the operation have not issued a detailed public statement.
Previous Maoist Busts in the Region
Earlier this month, on December 7, security forces dismantled another Maoist camp along the Odisha–Chhattisgarh border. That operation, conducted jointly by the Border Security Force (BSF) and the District Reserve Guard (DRG), led to the recovery of a large cache of explosives from the Sonpur–Kohka Meta forest in Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh.
Officials emphasised that sustained intelligence-based operations remain critical to ensuring regional security and civilian safety in areas affected by Maoist activities.
