In a tragic turn of events, a hunting expedition in Manpur village, Hindol block of Odisha’s Dhenkanal district, turned fatal when a man was accidentally shot by his friend on Thursday night.
The deceased, identified as Babula Nayak, was mistaken for prey by his friend, Prashant Nayak.
According to police reports, a group of four friends ventured into the forest near Kanpur village for an illegal hunting activity. During the expedition, Prashant fired his gun, believing he had spotted a target, only to realize the grave mistake when Babula was hit fatally.
The incident led to panic among the group, who reportedly tried to conceal Babula’s body in a nearby cashew forest. However, the truth surfaced when the victim’s wife, Jhilli Nayak, was informed and subsequently alerted the villagers.
Police have since arrested all four individuals and seized the firearm used in the incident. Authorities have reiterated the dangers and legal consequences of illegal hunting and urged citizens to refrain from such activities.
