A domestic property dispute in Bharatpur, Bhubaneswar took a gruesome turn when a man chopped off his younger brother’s hands following a heated argument over their family home’s ownership.

The violent confrontation involved Ashok Maharana, who was brutally attacked by his elder brother, Surya Maharana, in a fit of rage. Eyewitnesses described the horrific scene, stating that Surya used a sharp-edged weapon to sever his brother’s hands, leaving him severely injured.

Residents in the area revealed that the siblings had long-standing disputes over their family property. However, the altercation escalated dramatically last evening, culminating in a violent outburst.

“He was excessively beaten before the attack,” a witness recounted, adding that locals who attempted to intervene also faced aggression.

After the shocking attack, Surya attempted to hide in a nearby house, but enraged locals caught him, thrashed him, and handed him over to the police. Tensions further escalated when a crowd gathered, allegedly attacking the accused and damaging a police vehicle.

Police from Bharatpur Police Station are now conducting a thorough investigation, aiming to uncover more details and bring justice to the case.
