Police have arrested six additional individuals in connection with the violent clash reported from the MV-26 area of Malkangiri district, taking the total number of arrests to 15, officials confirmed on Sunday.

Earlier, nine persons were taken into custody as part of the investigation into the incident. Authorities said the arrests were made based on evidence gathered during ongoing inquiries.

Situation Improving, Security Remains Tight

According to the district administration, the overall situation in the violence-affected areas is gradually stabilising, with normal life slowly returning. However, security arrangements continue to remain in place at sensitive locations to prevent any recurrence of violence.

Internet Shutdown Extended as Precaution

Despite improvement on the ground, the internet suspension across Malkangiri district has been extended till 12 noon on Monday, the Collector said. The extension was ordered as a preventive measure to curb the spread of rumours and misinformation that could potentially disrupt law and order.

Prohibitory Orders Withdrawn

Meanwhile, prohibitory orders imposed under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) have been withdrawn following a review by the administration. The move has brought partial relief to residents, particularly those affected by restrictions on movement during the unrest.

Damage Estimated at ₹3.80 Crore

The district administration has estimated the total damage caused during the violence at approximately ₹3.80 crore. Officials reported significant damage to both public and private property.

Disrupted essential services, including electricity and drinking water supply, have now been fully restored in the affected areas.

Appeal for Public Cooperation

Authorities said the situation is being closely monitored, with police personnel deployed across vulnerable zones. The administration has appealed to residents to maintain peace and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to ensure the complete restoration of normalcy in the district.
